Hello! I'm Sonia, an illustrator and visual artist with a background in graphic design, traditional painting, and digital media. I grew up working in traditional materials such as oil and watercolor before teaching myself digital painting, and that traditional influence continues to shape my work today.
My artistic training began in India and continued in Canada, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Over the years, I've explored many creative disciplines, but illustration has remained the area I return to most often. I especially enjoy creating artwork for children's books, book covers, and other story-driven projects.
Although I work primarily in digital media, I strive to retain the texture, warmth, and handcrafted feel of traditional artwork. My background in both fine art and design has given me an appreciation for not only creating compelling images, but also understanding how those images function within the larger context of a book, publication, or visual narrative.
At the heart of my work is a love of storytelling. I enjoy creating illustrations that support the narrative, strengthen the reader's connection to the characters, and help bring an author's vision to life, regardless of genre or subject matter.
When I'm not painting, I'm usually learning new techniques, exploring the work of other artists, or finding inspiration in everyday life. I continue to grow and develop as an illustrator, and I am always grateful for opportunities to collaborate on meaningful and creative projects.
